Anyway, here goes:
I started with an x-large sweater
Then I cut it apart: sleeves, neck and waist ribbing.
I cut the body into three sections. Make them as equal as you can
From the body, take the two end sections. On each section, stitch both sides creating 2 tubes. One end of each will be skinnier because of the curve of the sleeve. This is okay.
Now attach the two tubes together creating a larger tube with a curve in the middle. You will eventually pull it inside out.
Now here's the middle section from the body.
Cut the curve out so that you have two even pieces
Now that's better.
Now cut into two equal halves and stitch on each side creating two tubes.
Stitch each little tube to each end of the big tube created before.
It should look like this. Then you will turn it inside out.
Now for the sleeves. You are going to add ribbing from the waist onto the shoulder of each sleeve. Take the waist ribbing and measure how much you will need for each sleeve shoulder.
Cut, stitch the sides of the ribbing, and sew onto shoulder of each sleeve.
Sleeves should look like this now.
Sew the sleeves to each end of the tube. This is how it should look like; a scarf with sleeves on the ends.
Step by step as to how to put it on.
Front and back views.
It's really very cozy, I love it!
|By the way, a similar Julia de Burgos (Puerto Rican poet) shirt, can be found in my shop|
