Lately, I have been overwhelmed with lack of sleep, my Dan's fussiness, and my older son's constant complaining. I also have not been feeling well. That said, I have not completed many sewing projects.
However, I wanted to show you some pics of a dress I made from a self-drafted pattern. I have been working on this project, on and off, for quite a while but am not super happy with it. The ruching got away from me, it's too long, and I don't like the color anymore. Not what I had in mind.
I do think there is hope for it somewhere. I am into refashioning, so this time, it will be from something I made myself! I am thinking of either cutting it and making it a tunic or making a high waisted skirt from the bottom half. I might cut the sleeves off too.
Do you have any ideas for refashioning this?
I like the dress on you and I like the colour, but I think you could tweak the hemline by putting a little ruching in the side seams so it doesn't hang down lower than the centre front. If you want a new look, you could make it shorter (still with the side ruching to keep the hemline straighter) and cut the sleeves to just above the elbow or to make them into cap sleeves and take the dress into summer that way. Whatever you do, it's a lovely dress pattern.
ReplyDeleteYes! Side ruching!!!!! What a great idea. the hemline is a disaster, i must have miscalculated when I drafted the pattern. Thank you so much Annabellouise!
ReplyDeleteI love the color and ruching effect. I think you could make two seperate pieces from this dress. I am seeing a long shirt/tunic, and a skirt. A tunis would look so cute with leggings and a pair of boots or flats. I think the skirt would look good by turning the ruching to the side, or perhaps the back.
ReplyDeleteGood Luck! I can't wait to see what you come up with!
