Sew and Tell: Grey Faux Lace Sweatshirt

First off, thank you so much for all the supportive comments from my last post. I know it was a long one! I appreciate you  reading through it and thank you, once again, for your encouragement. It meant so much!

Now, on to this item.  If the beige dress I showed in the last post was couture, this grey faux lace sweatshirt would be the ready-to-wear version. It has the same princess seams as the dress and the same faux lace screen print, in white. It however, is just a sweatshirt, more relaxed in fit and cropped. In retrospect, I would have made it a little longer.  I plan to make and sell these in my shop, if you are interested, let me know.

Work in progress

There is also no faux leather anything on the bottom sleeve. Definitely more relaxed.

 Lace print up close

I like it best with the sleeves rolled up. If you want to toughen it up and go for the vulnerability/armour look, you can wear a leather cuff with it.

I hope you like it. Please tell me what you think in the comments. I read every one and also reply to each.

  1. Very cute! I would definitely want it longer in the waist though -- but that is mainly because I don't have a midriff worth showing off! You should have a little care package showing up this week. The shirts need your tender loving touch, but I'm sure you will come up with something for Dan. Happy Thanksgiving.

    1. I got the package Julie! Thank you!!! I will def do something with the shirts, my hubby got a big kick out of the "social" one. I think I will make this sweatshirt a little longer. I'm too old to be showing my belly! I may be thin but with two kids, I got no 6 pack! lol. Happy Thanksgiving to you too!

  2. Gorgeous. Just the thing ... would indeed be great with leather anything! Lovely mix ... had to go out and actually purchase similar to wear for Thanksgiving! (See my current blog post to see my much less beautiful version of your much prettier lacy sweatshirt! Sigh.) Your version is so much better designed, all the way around. Clearly beautifully crafted, as well. Love the length ... I'm short-waisted and it's just what I'd like.

I am always aware that I live in the least interesting part of the world, and you and your work are examples of why that's the case. Enjoy your upcoming holiday!

    1. Ur the best Jan! Your neck of the woods is so blessed to have you, inspiring style. My sister lives in the south and she says the same thing, she's not forced to dress up there. But you would be surprised at the people that don't pay attention to style who live here. Anywho, I am so glad we found each other in blog land. I am an eternal fan and you inspire me as well. Thank you so much for stopping by.

    1. Thank you so much cloudsfullofrain! I loved the way the printed lace came out. It's always a risk, but this one worked! I appreciate you stopping by.

  4. I actually like the crop...then again, I'm in my 20s :) Maybe you can offer a 'short' and 'long' version (although not sure if that is extra work for you). I love lace prints!

  5. Yes!!! I definitely like. I would like to see it with the leather cuffs as well. Hoping things can pick for me $$$ wise, so I can start buying some of your stuff. Just think of me as a customer in waiting. :-)

    1. Thanks Miz Kp! Take your time, you know where to find me! I think I also do like the faux leather detail. I just didnt know how it would work here with the white print. Maybe white faux leather? Putting my thinking cap on.

  6. I love it! I would prefer a longer version, and am looking forward to seeing it in your shop. I cannot believe how amazing the screen printed lace looks with the sweatshirt. As always great job!!

    1. Thanks Theresa! Yes, this was a risk worth taking. I was pleasantly surprised myself at how beautiful the printed lace looks. I actually used a real piece of lace, copied it, and used that as the print which i then burned on the screen. I want to show u guys my process soon. Thank you so much for stopping by.
